Welcome to Westside Liquor’s monthly wine newsletter. It is our goal to spread the good word about new and exciting products in each and every newsletter. We also will give staff reviews of featured products to help you pick out a new beer, wine or cigar. In future issues we will also delve into informative articles so we all can better understand the contributing factors involved in bringing us our favorite wine.

"Time for a Change"

The night breeze is getting cooler, the leaves are
changing color and there are pumpkins lining my steps
up to my porch door. I find my way to the kitchen
where a steamy bowl of chilli is slow cooking. The
smells of beef, tomatoes and spices alert my senses.
This is a meal that calls for a hearty wine and some
good friends. As we slip into fall, the food we enjoy
and the wine we drink seem to always take a turn to
the more robust. Red wines in general are what most
people tend to drink as the weather changes. Some of
my favorite wines for fall are syrah/shiraz, cabernet,
merlot, pinot noir, rhône and blends. Also look to
some of the Spanish wines that are big and bold and
have grenache in them. Heavy meat dishes and big bold
stews need wines that have structure and weight. Match
the body of your wine with the weight of the dish.
Here are some of my picks for October. Enjoy!

Terrazas Malbec - this producer from Argentina delivers the goods. Cherries, raisins, licorice and toasted vanilla make this an ideal wine for braised and slow cooked meats. $12.99

Thorn & Clarke Barossa Cuvée - tons of blueberries and blackcherries make this an enjoyable wine for almost any wine lover. Another hit from down under. Pair with grilled red meats. $14.99

Vina Alarba Old Vine Grenache - Spain is doing it again and this wine should not be missed if you love spice, plums and cherries. Try with a bold tapas menu. $7.99

Concanon Petite Sirah - big, bold and juicy is the only way to describe this creature. Blackberries and blueberries topped with some serious tannins to boot. Yum, Yum, Yum. $12.99

Nepenthe Fugue - this Aussie blend is outstanding. The red berries, olives and spice make this a great choice for aged chedder cheeses, lamb or steak. $25.99

Castle Rock Res. Pinot Noir - this pinot is bold and big enough to stand up to hearty fare. Blackcherries and a little spice make this a must for all pinot lovers. Try with a stuffed portabella mushroom off the grill. $19.99
