GOOSE ISLAND BEER COMPANY: BREWING THE MIDWEST'S FRESHEST BEER

When Goose Island Beer Company was founded in 1988, there were only 16 brewpubs in the US. As brewpubs began to spring up across the country seemingly overnight, Goose Island solidified its position as a pioneer in the industry. Today, with distribution of its bottled beer across the Midwest and a beginning in the nonalcoholic beverage business, Goose Island has proven its staying power.

Goose Island Founder John Hall's goals were lofty from the start. In 1988, mass-produced beers were an ingrained part of the Midwest's landscape and Midwesterners knew little about craft beers. Hall knew the best way to educate consumers was to open a brewpub where they could see the brewing process and taste the distinctive beers.

When opening the original Goose Island brewpub on Clybourn, Hall and his team of professionals focused on every detail, from the unique Goose handle taps to the unmistakable "English-style pub" atmosphere. Hall knew that success started with a quality product and brand recognition. The Clybourn pub building was originally home to a brewery supply company for the pre-prohibition era brewery district. Now a daily reminder of Chicago's rich brewing history, Goose Island Clybourn has been named one of the top ten breweries in the world by the Beverage Testing Institute.

Goose Island Beers Available at your local WestSide Liquor store:

Honker’s Ale:
The beer that launched a revolution
Inspired by visits to English country pubs, Honker’s Ale combines a spicy hop aroma with a rich malt middle to create a perfectly balanced ale that is immensely drinkable. A smooth, drinkable English Bitter for those looking for more from their beer.

India Pale Ale:
The hop-lover's classic ale
Goose Island IPA recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result, quite simply a hop lover's dream. And this classic ale adds a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, to ensure that the long hop finish is one you'll remember.

Nut Brown Ale:
A deliciously creamy brown ale

Brewed in the English tradition, Nut Brown Ale combines the finest domestic and imported malts to produce a chestnut hued ale of unusual complexity. Subtle notes of chocolate, honey, and fine tobacco give this world champion ale an enjoyable and satisfying “nutty” finish.

Oatmeal Stout:
Their luxuriously smooth stout

An aromatic blend of oats, chocolate, and roast malts enhances their classic oatmeal stout. Encompassing award winning flavor, a rich black over ruby hue and a creamy tan head, this stout is memorable and enduring. All in all, truly drinkable brew.

Kilgubbin Red Ale:
Their traditional Irish style red ale
This ale pays homage to the Irish who settled on Kilgubbin Island in Chicago over 100 years ago. Made in the Irish tradition, Kilgubbin is brewed with roast barley and chocolate malts giving it a rich ruby color. A touch of malted rye gives it a spicy finish.

Summertime:
Kölsch Bier: The refreshing German-style pale ale
Kölsch is the clean and refreshing beer style of Cologne, Germany and the inspiration for Goose Island Summertime. This golden ale with a lightly fruity aroma is made with the finest malts and hops to create the perfect beer for summer.

Peter Jacques:
Goose Island toured the best breweries, even the Trappist breweries, but couldn't get into one of them. They were so determined that they kept calling until someone said yes. He was the Abbot and his name was Pere Jacques. He personally gave them a tour of one of the most beautiful breweries they’d ever visited, and they finished it all off with a wonderful lunch of roast duck and wild boar, perfectly matched with the brewery's own ales. They say they will never forget that day and that beer, and now brew Pere Jacques with loads of malt and Belgian yeast for a wonderfully complex, fruity malty ale.
