Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2004, Italy - If you love wines from Tuscany check out this outstanding bottle of vino. After visiting this winery two years ago I learned that most of the clonal research in this area of Italy was done by Castello Banfi. Taking hundreds of clones of the Sangiovese grape and narrowing it down to a few select clones, to produce the best of the best. This wine is a great introduction to the famous Brunello di Montalcino, at half the cost. Aged in oak for 12 months and bottle aged for a year, this wine displays aromas and flavors of cherry, licorice and cedar.
Pair with - grilled meats, aged cheese and parmigano reggiano.
Price - $24.99
Robertson Winery Pinotage 2004, South Africa - this grape varietal was propegated at the Stellenbosch University in 1925 by combinding the Pinot Noir and Cinsault grapes. The Pinotage is now planted in New Zealand, California, Zimbabwe and Canada, but if you want to taste the real deal check out South Africas original. Robertson Winery does an excellent job at an unbelievable price. Sourced from select grape growers this wine displays aromas of cherry and has flavors of blackberry and plum. This wine also has great depth and complexity.
Pair with - beef roast, venison, lamb or steak.

Root: 1 Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Chile - the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in the world are in Chile. The disease Phylloxera that devastated Europe in the late 1800's never reached Chile. The Pacific ocean and the Andes Mts. kept the louse out and the original rootstock still exists in this country. Some people claim that by having this rootstock superb and they may be right. This well defined cab has wonderful aromas of coffee and plum and flavors of blackberry and a chocalate finish. Yum, Yum.
Pair with - aged cheddar, Tri-Tip or a vegetarian stew.
Price - $12.99
Bodega Norton Privada Estate Reserve 2003, Argentina - the Bodega Norton winery began in 1895 and is situated in the highest region in the Mendoza River Valley at about 1100m (3610feet) above sea level. The grape vines for the Privada are between 50 and 80 years old. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up this incredible blend and its aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. Aromas of blackcurrant and flavors of plum, spice and vanilla fill the wine glass like a wine 3 times its price. A must try for cab lovers.
Pair with - fillet mignon, grilled bison or elk.
Price - $16.99
Rosenblum Cellars Petite Sirah Heritage Clones 2004, California - heres a stunning wine that will blow away any big red wine lover. This dense wine has aromas and flavors of cassis, vanilla, blackberries and smoke. The mouthfeel is like velvet and the finish lingers on and on. Rosenblum is origanally known for world-class Zinfandels, but this Petie is fab. Its drinking wonderful now, but will age well for 10 to 15 years.
Try a bottle before its all gone.
