“ Check out the Wines of South Africa “
If your looking for a new wine country to explore, try some of the excellent wines from South Africa. Although considered a New World wine producer, South Africa has been making vino since the 1600’s. Most of the quality growing regions lie in the south–west of the country and the areas to note are Paarl, Stellenbosch and Worcester. You can find incredible red and white wines packed with character and filled with flavor at prices usually under $20. For you white wine drinkers definitely look for the Chenin Blancs, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs from these regions. The Chenin Blancs tend to have a bit of sweetness to them and the Sauvignon Blancs lie in between the wines of the Loire Valley of France(Sancerre) and the New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. Also the white and red blends are some of the most interesting for value and flavor. If you enjoy red wines with fresh fruit and an earthy twist then you’ve come to the right place. The Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot are well worth checking out. In 1925 the Pinotage grape was created at the Stellenbosch University by combining the Pinot Noir and the Cinsault grapes. Its definitely one of the countries signature varietals and should not be missed. South Africa is one of the wine countries to keep an eye on now and in the near future. The industry is starting to blossom and the wines are only getting better and better. Here is a list of producers and wines that are of exceptional value and quality.
