"Tommy Knocker Beers"
Colorado has no shortage of interesting micro-brews. Next time your in try the Brewery that was named “Best of Denver 2009”, Tommy Knocker Brewery.
Located in the historic mining town of Idaho Springs, this brewery produces roughly 123,000 cases per year. Idaho Springs was booming in 1859, supplying the U.S. Mint with approximately $2 million of Gold. The city is located about 30 miles west of Denver . The brewery pays tribute to this mining history with their name, Tommy Knocker.
Tommy Knockers were mischievous elf-like creatures that hid in the mines. Legend has stories of miners being saved by falling boulders and other hazards by these mysterious creatures. They also warned miners of dangers ahead by moving their equipment or making noise to gain attention.
Tommy Knocker's most popular beers are the Maple Nut Brown Ale, The Jack Whacker Wheat Ale, and the Pick Axe Pale Ale.
The Maple Brown Ale actually has Maple Syrup added to impart a nice sweetness.
The Jack Whacker Wheat is a light, American-style brew, perfect for warm weather with its citrus aromas and delicate lemon grass.
Finally, the Pick Axe Ale is made as a traditional English Pale Ale. Using fine hops instills a more full-bodied beer that tastes like an E.P.A should.
Tommy Knocker also offers sampler packs in 6-pack and 12-pack offerings, along with seasonal beers. Next time your in, pick up a 6-pack and “knock” a couple of these tasty beers back.
