BACKYARD BEER PANEL

We are definitely hunkered down in the man-cave for this round of beerology.  I was excited to try this beer from Sierra Nevada Brewing Company while digging into the background information on this brewery.  It is one of the greenest (making some joy for the world) breweries around...  This state of the art facility boasts the largest private solar array in the United States, and creating their own biodiesel fuel from their waste vegetable oil for their truck fleet are just two examples of how environmentally sound this company is (kinda makes you want to support them by drinking some beer and visiting their website).  The beer panel is also into recycling by properly disposing of the glass containers, cardboard and thoroughly draining all liquids from any of the aforementioned containers. Ok back to business...

This was the first IPA we trialed and as that goes you either like or dislike the boldness (bitterness) of this style of beer.  The reviews show a wide range of scores with our newbie Christine V. having the highest rating.  We all agreed that we would drink a couple / few and it is good if you are looking for "something different".  The other newbie Duane suggested that we add another column to the rating "the next day" which he would give a 5 for this beer because he felt great the next morning (that's good because he had to go to work)

What is an IPA?

India Pale Ales are not native to the US. Nor are they native to India. The style originates from England 1700-1800, where the British Empire appointed its first governor to India and began heavy trading. Beer being one of the many items that was leveraged within the market due to its being such a necessity at the time, it was even though of as a staple of one's diet.  English brewers in the early 1800's began brewing a more stable beer to withstand the long and rigorous journey to India A common method was to heavily hop the beer and take advantage of the acids in hops which act as a natural preservative this gives this beer naturally high level of bitterness.

There are a couple of new members on the panel Duane Counter (DOC) I don't think he is a doctor but he can drink the beer. Christine Vorpahl is very open minded about beer and those bitter little hops do not frighten her off (cool). I gladly welcome the new panel members and want to thank other panel members whom are good friend and hearty beer drinkers thank you Mitch Sloan (wanted to be called "The Man" what ever), Tim Gilbert, SFC Mike St Marie (Ret), Dan "Strackman" Strack, Al Al-Rifai.

Notable Quote: A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her. --W.C. Fields  I agree and I am still drinking beer (love you honey).

Please, join me in supporting the beer makers of America and enjoy your beer.
