Backyard Beer Panel
I have been asked by my friends at Westside Liquor to help review some of their new beers and write a little summary. I am a sharing person so I have decided to make this as much fun as possible and invite a few friends along (it did not take much persuading when you add beer). We are using some standard beer measurements based on our own beer tastes and some common practices for getting a pure beer flavor sampling.
Let me introduce you to the beer that we sampled:

GREAT LAKE DORTMUNDER GOLD Great Lakes Brewing Company Cleveland Ohio USA. Style: Dortmunder/Helles (Lager) Originates from Dortmunder reigon of Germany
Commercial Description: This smooth lager strikes a delicate balance between malt and hops in the aroma, palate, finish and body. It has more body and less hops than a Pilsner, and less malt and more hops than a Munich style lager.
Stats: 30 IBU (international bitterness units) 30 is a medium bitter ABV (alcohol by volume) 5.8%

This beer was sampled at 42 degrees in a chilled (not frozen) lager glass on my patio (hence the back yard panel). Here is how we reviewed this beer: The point system we used is based on a 5 point scale with 5 being perfect and 0 being undesirable
Appearance - Note the beer's color, carbonation, head and its retention Smell - Bring the beer to your nose. Note the beer's aromatic qualities. Taste - Take a deep sip of the beer. Note any flavors, or interpretations of flavors, that you might discover. Mouth Experience - Take another sip and let it wander. Note how the beer feels on the palate and its body. Drinkability - The beer's overall ease of consumption and your overall impression of the beer.

“I could drink this all day” (Al), the rest of us agreed this is an easy drinking lager that would be great to have a couple/few after work and before dinner.

Those guys* (experts) gave this beer a 3.53 rating (from 702 surveys).
Food Pairing: you will need a strong robust flavor to compete with the hops so we recommend trying with a sea fish such as salmon and light salad.
Special thanks to the Backyard Panel: Mike StMarie, Al Al-Rifai, Dan Strack “Strackman”, Randy Loidolt (the names have not been changed because they are not innocent, they drank the beer and they are guilty)
This was a lot of fun for me and my friends and I am looking forward to drinking more beer. *those guys and the beer statistics came from “ratebeer.com” a wonderful site about BEER and it has tutorials about the finer points of beer for the novice to the expert.
Best regards, Pat Best
