Westside Liquor Beer Newsletter October 2010

Hello beer friends, we did have to start a fire in the backyard but it was more for ambiance than to keep warm.  This month we have a little twist and get to review a home town favorite to an original German Oktoberfest beer.

I decided to use a double blind taste test with a twist (could not make it too easy after all this was a test).

I made the boys work for this one.  In addition to asking them to drink both of these fine beers marked as Beer 1 and Beer 2.  I also asked them to pick which one was the foreign beer and which one was the domestic beer and asked them to guess which country they think it came from. (multiple choice).  I guess this is better than asking them to feats of physical strength, endurance, or flexibility after drinking beer. (Just got a bad picture of that).  Mike was the only one who missed the Foreign/Domestic and no one guessed the country right.  Out of : Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Canada. While I am sad to say that the local favorite did not do well overall against the German bier, both beers were excellent to sample and a pleasure to drink.  Both were traditional Oktoberfest beers with their caramel color, smooth taste and drinkability. The Hacker-Pschorr was lighter both in taste and alcohol content it was favored by both the backyard beer panel and the experts.  All in all this beer review was different and exciting (because of the mystery and suspense) the entire beer panel enjoyed this format.  They are definitely looking forward to what comes next (because it is beer).  I would like to thank the panel of judges for putting up with me Al Al-Rafai, Dan Strack "Strack Man", Tim Gilbert, Mike St Marie, and  Mitch Sloan "Mr. Sloan" just had a baby boy congratulations too...

Notable quote.

Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.

I think if Ben were around today things would be simpler and the beer might even taste a little better... (my quote)
