La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 5 Natural

Fall is finally here. This is my favorite time of year the crisp air warm days and cool night; there is no better time to smoke a cigar. This month I tried to match a cigar to the season and with this in mind, I went straight to the La Gloria Cubana Serie R No. 5 Natural.

The history of the cigar goes all the way back to 1885 when Cabañas y Castro created the brand. Now Partagás makes the cigar that is located in Dominican Republic.  The number 5 serie is the robusto size in the Serie R line of cigars.

Looking over the cigar it has light colored veins with a heavy worn rustic color. The cigar is labeled as a natural but I will tell you that this is the darkest natural that we have in our humidor.  The smell that I got from this cigar is a little woodsy and cedar. The cigar started out with a mild woodsy taste with a little cedar coming out through the nose. Getting into the second third of the cigar coffee starts to kick in with more of that woodsy taste building. The smoke gets a almost creamy texture to it with a nice burn and ample plume. Getting in the final third the coffee and wood flavors build to their peak making it a medium cigar. The flavors remain the same except for there is a little spiciness that build at the very end.

My conclusion on this cigar is that it is a very good medium-bodied cigar. The cigar starts out soft and cool and builds up to a rich and creamy smoke. If there is anything negative that I could say is that it did have a slightly tight draw, but not unpleasant by any means.  I would recommend this to all of my friends and family. This cigar is best enjoyed sitting around a fire with a lighter style bourbon or a good seasonal harvest beer.  Relax and enjoy.
