Backyard Beer Panel

Hello friends, we did not linger long on this review.  We have been spending our Wednesday evening at Lake George enjoying the Summertime by George concerts.  This is a great event for St Cloud.  The music, food and beverage make it a carnival like atmosphere.  We also had to make it a quick review due to the acorns falling on the patio where we do the reviews. The danger of risking a mild head injury added to the excitement of drinking beer in the backyard.

This Month's Beer

Sierra Nevada Tumbler

Brewed by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company

Chico, California USA

Style: Brown Ale
Seasonal: Autumn
IBU: 37 ABV: 5.5

Best served in a dimpled mug

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION:   Sierra Nevada uses malt within days of roasting at the peak of its flavor to give Tumbler a gracefully smooth malt character. Two-row pale, crystal 40, chocolate and smoked malts give it a malty complexity. Challenger hops in the boil add balancing bitterness, while more Challengers and some Goldings give just enough hop flavor in the finish to balance all that malt.

As the nights grow cool, the leaves begin to turn and the acorns fall like little missiles.  In honor of this yearly dance, we bring you Tumbler Autumn Brown Ale and invite you to enjoy the show.  This is the third beer from Sierra Nevada that we have sampled.  They use malt within days of roasting at their peak of flavor to give Tumbler a graceful smooth malt character.  So pour a glass, grab a seat to watch as the leaves come tumbling down.

We have a guest sitting in on this review, Jeanie Bettendorf who thought that this beer was the perfect.  The extra effort will be noted on her report card and one gold star next to her name on the refrigerator. The rest of us really enjoyed the beer but did not give it a perfect score.  The "experts" gave this one a 3.47 while we backyardians scored it a 3.8.  As always I want to thank my good friends for helping me with this endeavor.  In no particular order Tim Gilbert, Mike St Marie, Christine Vorpahl, Telal Al-Rifai, Dan (Strackman) Strack, Jeanie and Bill Bettendorf and Myself.
