ACID LIQUID by Drew Estate
This month we are looking in to the acid line from drew estates. This is a new cigar in our humidor but not a new one as far as the market goes, I am talking about the red label liquid. Let me start out by saying that this one will not be every ones cup of tea and even though I hate to say it for most it will be either you like it or hate it. With that said on with the smoke
The first thing that you will notice about this cigar is the great construction. It has a beautiful oily Connecticut shade wrapper that is very smooth. Looking over the cigar you will be hard pressed to find any veins or soft spots, but then again this is what we have come to expect from drew estates Esteli Nicaragua factory. On of the things that got me is the smell this cigar if from there in your face red label but it has a very light scent of clove, floral and nut. I used a puck on this cigar since that is has a 50 ring gauge and I do not like all of that loose tobacco floating around in my mouth. On the light, I did notice that this cigar has a tight draw hopefully I will still get ample amounts of smoke.
Getting in to the first 1/3 of the cigar, I will have to say that I was a little skeptical at first. The cigar started with a causal taste of nuts and cedar maybe a little wine. This cigar still has a tight draw for me so far hopefully it will remedy itself. The cigar flavors are starting to build now and really emphasizing on the nutty clove taste.
I finally in the middle of the cigar broke down and had to fix the tight draw. It was getting to the point that it interfered with the smoke. For those of you that do not know how to fix this it is actually relatively simple. There are many different opinions on how to fix this but I use a tool called a cigar spike. It is a needle about 4 inches long and about a 18 gauge in diameter and what you do is simply push it through the head of the cigar directly in the middle and making sure that it is strait so that you do not damage the cigar. Let me tell you it worked like a charm. Getting back to the second third of this cigar, I noted that the flavors grew and grew to with the clove, wine and tobacco remembering you that you bought a Acid Cigar and definitely living up to the red labels name.
The last third of the cigar the flavors started to mellow out but the tobacco remained strong. I smoked it right down to the nub and the burn was great though out the whole cigar. The only touching up on anything was cigar spike. This is a great cigar at a reasonable price for those of you that would like to try a in your face cigar.
