"Great Summer Wines for All to Enjoy"
The grill is smoking and friends will be arriving anytime. The weather is beautiful and there is nothing better than relaxing and sitting on the deck. Starting the party off with some tasty wine is a sure bet and a crowd pleaser. In the summer heat I generally pick wines with vibrant acidity, lower in alcohol and wines with low tannins and little to no oak. If your having shrimp, chicken, pasta or cheese the picks below will pair superbly. Today quality wine is being made in all parts of the world and finding a gem is easy. Sparklers from Italy are a smart choice and of course Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand are a winning pick. German Rieslings are also a wine that pairs with a wide array of food. The acidity and residual sugar of these German wines pleases a large crowd and won't break the bank. Also white blends from Italy are quite refreshing and light enough for the heat. Here are a few excellent picks that I've enjoyed time and time again. Happy grilling and remember to chill your vino down!

Mionetto Prosecco Brut, Veneto, Italy -
Heres a thirst quenching sparkler for the summer heat. The Mionetto family has been producing quality wine since 1887 in the Veneto region of Italy, and the passion shows through to the finished product. Prosecco is the name of the grape, and the Italian style is usually lighter and more refreshing than most Champagne. Fresh aromas and flavors of apple, peach, pear and citrus make this dry sparkling wine excellent with all types of summertime fare. This is also the famous wine that makes a Bellini. Just add 1 white peach puree and 5 pts. Prosecco.
Pair with - fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, antipasto, clams or shrimp.
Price - $13.99
WhiteHaven Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough New Zealand -
If you want to try a world class wine that goes great with light summertime foods check this one out. New Zealand has put the Sauvignon Blanc grape back on the map in less than thirty years and this wine shows why. Incredible mouthwatering acidity with fresh aromas and flavors of citrus, gooseberry and currant with a crisp clean long finish. Great for the next couple of years.
Pair with - mussels, white fish, summer salads and lighter chicken dishes.
Price - $20.99
Freiherr Langwerth von Simmern Hattenheimmer Nussbrunnen Kabinett Riesling, Rheingau Germany -
This family established itself in the Reingau region of Germany in 1464 and continues to produce outstanding wines of distinction. This well balanced Riesling has wonderful aromas and flavors of peach and vanilla custaerd with the right amount of acidity and a slight sweetness. If you love Rieslings this is a must try for the summer.
