New Zealand Rocks
|
The first New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was made only 25 years ago. In this short period of time New Zealand has put this varietals back on the map. In particular the South Island of New Zealand, and the region of Marlborough is where the best Sauvignon Blancs are coming from. The purity of flavors and exotically ripe style of their wine was at the time unlike anything else being made. The now classic aromas and flavors of Grapefruit, Gooseberry, Melon and Green Pepper are what makes these gems so delicious to anyone willing to give them a try. Here are some of my favorite Sauvignon Blancs that are worth your time and money.
Nobilo Icon - this has incredible grapefruit and gooseberries and the complexity of a wine triple its price.
Brancott Sauvignon Blanc - try this with your favorite fish dish and prepare to be amazed.
Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc - more grassy then the first two wines, but well worth the money and great with a chicken salad.
Lawson's Dry Hills Sauvignon - great acidity and would pair well with a cold salmon salad.
These wines are also great by themselves and excellent for this time of year. Give New Zealand a try and you'll never look back. Until next time remember to "keep one hand on the corkscrew and the other on the bottle".
