The Ultimate Summer Sipper

When its hot outside and you need something to quench your palate, look for a Riesling. This noble grape is usually made in a light style and has great acidity. Its low in alcohol, rarely oaked and has a great show of fruit. Riesling are one of the most food friendly wines in the world and pair well with salads, fish, chicken and pork. Also try one with any spicy Asian cuisine. Remember that Rieslings can be bone dry or made into sweet desert wines. Check out the German Rieslings for their balance between acidity and sweetness. And of course the Rieslings from are own Washington State, Oregon and New York State are great. The Australians are making great dry Riesling and should be sought out. Here are some great wines to try for the summer.

Columbia Winery Cellar Master Riesling - great as an aperetif or with Chinese cuisine.

Wolf Blass Riesling - dry and refreshing and pairs well with salads.

Seebrich Kabinett - well balanced with a touch of sweetness.

Bridgeview Bluemoon - excellent with spicy Thai food.

Also check out any German Rieslings from the 2001 or the 2002 vintages. These are incredible and stellar vintages and two of the best in many years. Until next time remember to "keep one hand on the corkscrew and the other on the bottle".

Arrivederci!
