What’s a Viognier
|
The Viognier is a grape varietals that originally comes from the Rhone in France, but now is being grown in California and Australia with success. Its pronounced like veen- own- yay. If you like a big bodied white wine with a floral nose and tons of peach, apricot and tropical fruits try a Viognier today. Most of the time this varietals is not oaked and made clean and pairs well with a wide range of cuisine. Try it with chicken, pork, fish or spicy Asian food. Some excellent producers to check out are:
Yalumba Viognier - great with spicy food and chicken.
Zaca Mesa Viognier - try with a cream sauce over fish.
Cline Viognier - nice with grilled pork.
Smoking Loon Viognier - great value and works as a aperitif.
Also if you can find any Rhone Viogniers for under $20 bucks, pick them up. Happy tasting and remember to "keep one hand on the corkscrew and the other on the bottle".
